With five full-time teachers, one part-time teacher, a full-time Theatre Manager and a part-time Production Designer, UCS Drama is a busy, thriving, creative department. We stage three full-scale productions each year, have large A Level and GCSE numbers and have recently introduced GCSE Dance as an option.
Our departmental mission statement is simple: academic excellence, co-curricular innovation and inclusivity. Our vision is for UCS to become the go-to destination in London for pupils who wish to study Drama, building upon our existing reputation for having an outstanding co-curricular provision and excellent public examination results.
Our public-facing co-curricular productions have enjoyed success at the Edinburgh Fringe and, recently, the Savoy Theatre in the West End, while the strength of our teaching and learning has led to pupils studying Drama at the very best universities and drama schools, including Tisch NYU, Cambridge and the Royal Welsh School of Music and Drama.
At the very heart of all this endeavour is, of course, the student experience. Drama and Dance are joyful, exciting, creative subjects which require huge amounts of responsibility, resilience, resourcefulness and strong relationship skills. Our lessons and co-curricular opportunities reflect this, and we always aim to strike the right balance between challenge and enjoyment.
In line with our Benthamite principles, we will continue to ensure that all of our opportunities are available to every pupil at UCS, regardless of race, gender, disability and sexual orientation: a process which will inevitably strengthen and support our pursuit of academic excellence, co-curricular innovation and inclusivity.
