Sixth Pupils Set the Stage for a Musical Year

Tuesday saw the first inaugural event of the UCS musical year; a lunchtime concert by Sixth Musicians, featuring a lineup of top our musicians, including a Captain and Vice Captain of monitors. Last year we had 160 solo performances during these lunchtime events! 

The concert opened with Vice Captain of Monitors Maya Patel, who performed ‘Allemanda’ from Partita no 2 by Johan Sebastian Bach. Maya plays grade 8 violin also studies at Junior Guildhall and has recently been appointed a Young Artist by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. 

Following Maya was Yasmin Campbell, one of our renowned cello players who recently achieved a Distinction in her ARSM diploma.

The programme then saw Jacob Sinker, performing  Lord God of Abraham Felix Mendelssohn in baritone, then Tyler Bennett, this year’s winner of the Junior Guildhall Voice Prize who sang Ombra Mai Fu Handel in tenor. 

The penultimate performance was Captain of Monitors Finn Kjaergaard, a grade 8 violinist who performed  Caprice Viennois Fritz Kreisle. Finn has been a member of the National Youth Orchestra for four years and has recently been appointed joint principal Violin 2. Finn also Studies at the Junior Royal College of Music where he leads the chamber orchestra.

Concluding the show was a distinguished duet performance of Spain Chick Corea, performed by Joseph Kouyoumijan (piano) and Ayan Hull-Jurkovic (bass guitar)

The performance closed with a huge round of applause for our musicians, with everyone very much looking forward to the formal concerns at the end of term.
