At UCS, we want to help more pupils join us, grow with us and ignite the curiosity and creativity within. That’s why, as we approach our 200th anniversary, we have launched Tomorrow’s Trailblazers: a fundraising and celebration campaign to build a School for the future.

UCS is an outstanding school with many fantastic facilities. The Senior School is home to a state-of-the-art library with adaptable smart classrooms; a Sixth Form study centre for Transitus and Sixth Form pupils to meet, revise and socialise as they work towards their A-Levels; and the exceptional, dynamic Lund Theatre and Art Gallery, which provide our pupils with a creative outlet to explore their ideas and refine their skills. We are so thankful to all those who helped to create these spaces.

These facilities are excellent, but that does not mean we can’t improve. We are constantly evaluating our provision to ensure all of our pupils are receiving the best possible experience. In recent years, we have identified key areas for improvement, to better cater to our pupils, both current and future. To meet this need we created Tomorrow’s Trailblazers; an expansion and enhancement project which will provide our pupils with more opportunities to learn, explore, create, and nurture their wellbeing.

The project boasts three key components:

  1. An expanded Bursary Award programme, enabling more young people to attend UCS and unlock their fullest potential.
  2. A Wellbeing Hub for all pupils to access counselling, nursing care, wellness advice and quiet spaces to support their mental health as they traverse some of the most challenging years of their lives.
  3. Enhanced Performing Arts spaces, including a c.128 seat auditorium, a dance and drama studio, and music practice rooms, increasing pupil access to the performing arts and improving our music provision.

Supporting the Bursary Award Fund

A UCS Bursary Award can transform a young person’s life, helping to shape the course of their life. We are incredibly proud of what a UCS experience entails, and want this to be open to academically ambitious children from every background, regardless of household income. We are proud to provide 60 full or partial bursary places – 7% of the pupil population – each year.

Additionally, our Bursary Award programme enriches the life and community of UCS immeasurably, enabling our pupils to appreciate the value of inclusion and become more versatile collaborators and leaders in the future.

As we move towards our 200th anniversary in 2030, bursaries remain an important part of our future. Securing sustainable funding to support this is a vital part of the Development Office’s work. Improving our wellbeing facilities

We believe a thriving pupil is confident, content and happy within themselves. But it isn’t always easy to find that sense of calm. With revision, exams, clubs and sports, social media pressure, and changing peer relationships, life for our pupils can feel chaotic and challenging at times. We aim to bring more balance to the lives of our pupils by providing a space for them to breathe, reflect and access the support they need. Fitted with counselling offices, a bespoke meditation room, and resources to support resilience, the Wellbeing Centre will enable more pupils to access the care they need, whenever they need it.

Enhancing the performing arts

The Performing Arts give young people the chance to develop their talents, grow their confidence and find new ways of seeing the world. As UCS, our facilities are over subscribed, with more pupils interested in the arts than we can currently cater to. That’s why we are developing bespoke practice and performance spaces; to enable more young people to pursue their talents and refine their skills. With your support, they can take centre stage.
