UCS pupils nominated for short film award

UCS pupils who took part in a film-making day run by the Young Film Academy (YFA) were shortlisted for a prestigious ’10 Shot Film Award’.

The UCS students collaborated with professionals from the YFA’s One Day Film School during an event that was designed to teach them the rudiments of the film-making process and which culminated in them making their own short movie.

This two-minute piece of work, titled ‘Get Back’, conveyed an anti-bullying message and won a place among the ten nominees in the Years 10–12 category of the YFA’s annual awards.

Although the UCS contingent missed out on the top prizes, the pupils benefited greatly from the experience at a time when, according to UCS Head of Higher Education, Lisa Jenkins, “there are more and more students considering courses such as Film and TV”.

The ’10 Shot Film Awards’ showcase the best two-minute films produced by groups of students from 125 schools in the UK, recognising filming excellence.

The YFA is a hub partner of the British Film Institute (BFI), and Teacher Joe Sharp said: “We have been using them for ten years or so and an Old Gower was even working with them this year!”
